The gender breakdown of Ashley Madison may surprise you
24 August 2015

It’s a bad time to be a massive cheating douchebag who uses paid websites to find people to have extramarital affairs with.

In the wake of Ashley Madison's recent hacking scandal, which saw a 10 gigabyte file called Time’s Up! posted on BitTorrent and the dark web to reveal the names, addresses and bank details of the site’s users, everyone from UK politicians to personnel of the US military (where cheating on your spouse is an actual crime) were quickly allegedly identified as members.

The other major talking point as people attempted to scramble for more information from hackers The Impact Team, or, conversely, attempt to delete cookies faster than humanly possible, was of what exactly the makeup of the users was: had more men subscribed? Did more women use the service? Or was it an even split of digital two-timers?

Well the results are pretty surprising to say the least - a web team called Malfideleco, who collated all the information to find out which gender was more prevalent and where in the world it was happening, found that on average between 90 to 95 per cent of all Ashley Madison users were male. A dude-fest. So at least scorned wives can probably file for divorce safe in the knowledge their hubby wasn't getting a good deal anyway.

Take a look at the interactive map, here, and you'll see that this seems to be a fairly male-heavy presence the world over. Though if you zoom on the UK you may also see yellow spots (representing the women) are slightly more apparent in South Wales, North West England and the Home Counties.

Overall though - husbands, get your act together.
