Temple Run could gain big screen adaptation

For those not already acquainted with massively popular mobile game Temple Run or its sequel, here's a simple summary: you know that bit in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom when Indie runs away from the boulder? Stretch that sequence over a never-ending tilt-to-dodge game mechanic and you've pretty much got it.

So, now familiar with this ever so simple game narrative, you can join us in being totally perplexed by news that Warner Bros. are negotiating for the rights to make a Temple Run feature film.

The Hollywood Reporter have had word that Harry Potter producer David Heyman (also linked to produce J.K. Rowling's Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them) and Warner Bros. are in talks with the game's developers Imangi Studios.

With no writer or firm deal yet confirmed, we're left to speculate on what the story could entail beyond 'guy goes looking for ancient idol in old temple, guy steals ancient idol and awakens evil spirit forces that look like monkeys, guy runs away from said forces'. Stretch that out over 90 minutes and Warner Bros. hope that its 15 million daily players (the first game has gained over 170 million downloads, while Temple Run 2 is seeing similar success) will run toward cinemas in a similar fashion to the game's protagonist.

Will it work as a film? Will they cast Mo Farah in the title role? We'll have to wait and see.

If you still don't know what we're talking about, here's what the game actually looks like:
