'Tis the season for new movie trailers, it would seem. Not that we're complaining.

Today's offering comes from Pan's Labyrinth director Guillermo del Toro with Pacific Rim (AKA the film he left The Hobbit for).

The story follows the human race and their bid to fight some monstrous creatures, who have risen from the sea, known as Kaiju. Spoiler alert, they aren't exactly friendly and a war ensues. To fight them, humans create an army of massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots.

But even these weapons are no match for the Kaiju. So, the human race has to turn to a washed up former pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and an untested trainee (Rinko Kikuchi) – who are teamed to drive a legendary Jaeger from the past to stop the planet's impending doom. Oh, and it also stars Idris Elba.

While it's hard to deduce any real story arc from the above, it does look all kinds of spectacular and shows off del Toro's ability to make monsters look especially terrifying.
