Get ready for Disney and Marvel to make films together for “forever”

Good news or bad news?

Not content with an upcoming release schedule jam-packed with films we can’t wait to get out square eyes around, such as the live-action retelling of Jungle Book in April, the incredible-looking Captain America: Civil War in the same month, and a fist-bitingly brilliant amount of Star Wars films in the pipeline, Disney’s CEO Bob Iger has announced that there’s a lot more set to come our way. A heck of a lot.

Extra Star Wars films? You got it.

“There will be more [Star Wars films] after that,” Iger told BBC Newsbeat, revealing that after we’ve been treated to Rogue One (due in December 2016), Episode VIII (due in 2017), Episode IX, a Han Solo spin-off and possible Boba Fett film, we’ll be lining up at the cinema for even more. “I don’t know how many, I don’t know how often,” he added.

Oh, and how about a never-ending amount of Marvel films? Sure, why not.

“You’re dealing with thousands and thousands of characters – that will go on forever,” Iger said when pressed about the Marvel Universe. “I think we keep raising the bar in terms of telling stories that bring [the fans] back, that excites them, that makes it feel new and that is what we do for a living.”

Iger failed to comment on whether he’s planning on cryogenically freezing Iron Man’s Robert Downey Jr. to keep his cash cow actor in his red and gold armour from now until the end of time.

Obviously, all this is excellent news for fans of superpowers, lightsabres and cute little rolling droids, but what about those that are already frustrated by sheer amount of Lycra-clad men clogging up the big screen? Have we already reached peak hero? On top of that, there’s the whole ‘will we even care’ argument put forward by film big dogs such as Stephen Spielberg and Zack Snyder, who both predict that the superhero film will die a death similar to that of the Western genre, thanks to cinema oversaturation.

What side of the fence are you on? Let us know in the poll below.
