Gargantuan Pacific Rim trailer arrives

With each new Pacific Rim trailer, we're finding ourselves slowly coming around to Guillermo Del Torro's mech versus monster SFX orgy.

Yes, it's treading a path well trod by many animé franchises (not to mention the penultimate three minutes of any episode of the Power Rangers), and baring any unconventional twists, you know the boat-wielding good guys are going to win, but sometimes that's what we want from a film.

After the grandeur of The Great Gatsby, we're excited by the prospect of watching giant robots level half of Japan in the fight against evil.

Who knows, Idris Elba might have a heart-wrenching father-son plot line to contend with while battling the giant beasts? No? We thought not.

Pacific Rim will storm into cinemas on July 12
