A rare copy of Action Comics No.1, featuring the first appearance of Superman - believed to be a copy once stolen from Nic Cage - sold yesterday for a record $2.16m (£1.4m).
The online auction resulted in the first ever sale of a comic for more than $2 million. The issue was published in 1938 and cost 10c.
Stephen Fishler, the chief of Comicconnect which sold the comic on behalf of its owner, would not confirm that it was Cage's comic, but its sales history matched details of one owned by the Face/Off madman, said The Hollywood Reporter.
Cage's comic was pinched from his home in 2000 and only recovered in April when an unidentified man bought the contents of an abandoned Southern California storage locker.
It was reported Cage had received an insurance payment for the comic but expressed an interest in reaching a settlement to regain ownership.
