The new 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' trailer is here and it looks pretty decent
28 March 2017

The latest trailer for this year’s most nailed-on summer blockbuster has landed, and it hits all the notes you’d expect it to. Tom Holland reprises his role as Spider-Man, having first appeared in last year’s Captain America: Civil War, with the 20-year-old Brit making another passable attempt at a New York accent.

This time around, we see a lot more of Michael Keaton playing Adrian Toomes, aka the Vulture, a classic Spider-Man villain driven, no doubt perfectly reasonably, to dress up as a kind of robotic bird and shoot a ray gun at the Staten Island Ferry. There’s also more of Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man, who seems set to play a big part in this reboot, and who has apparently provided Peter Parker with various bits of tech, but almost nothing of either Zendaya or Laura Harrier, as two of the webslinger’s high school class mates.

There’s a bit of drama, a bit of comic relief, and some reasonably spicy action, and while it’s no doubt put together as well as all the other big Marvel movies, if there are any big superhero surprises to come, they’re not appearing in this particular trailer.

Holland is the fourth actor to play the character on the silver screen, but the third in 15 years after Tobey Maguire and  Andrew Garfield appeared in three and two films respectively. This time, however, the film is tied into Marvel’s cinematic universe, hence the appearance of Iron Man – and the studio will be hoping that this time around the franchise doesn’t peter out.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is in cinemas in the UK on 28 July, 2017, with a sequel slated for 2019. The first Marvel film of the year, however, will be Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which is out on 28 April.
