The ShortListen: The Coral (no. 236)

Who? The Coral

What’s the story? Liverpool act The Coral are one of the nation's great musical treasures - and we too often take them for granted. Naturally, they are probably still best remembered for their incredible trio of early hits Dreaming Of You, Pass It On and In The Morning, but they've consistently produced great music since then too, notably 2010's critically-acclaimed record Butterfly House. Now they're back after a five year hiatus with new album Distance Inbetween. Where first single Chasing The Tail of a Dream was all mysterious psychedelia, this track, Miss Fortune, premiering exclusively on The ShortListen, ups the pace and the pop, recalling the finest moments of Super Furry Animals, with a touch of UNKLE electronica, and the swagger of Kasabian thrown in for good measure. Another excellent album awaits.

For fans of: Super Furry Animals, Kasabian, UNKLE

In three words: Driving psychedelic journey
