Watch a young Mark Zuckerberg explain the purpose of The Facebook
21 April 2016

Here's a bit of #TBT for you.

Red plastic cup? Check. A beer keg stand? Check. Short shorts? Yep, we're firmly in the midst of US college culture circa 2005.

Depicting a 21-year-old Mark Zuckerberg on the cusp of pushing his social network service to hundreds of education centres the world over, this interview shows the young CEO outlining his fledgling vision of The Facebook.

It's odd to see this youthful, unassuming figure waxing lyrical about his web invention: sentences ending with repeated upward inflection like a college girl, the word 'like' appears every third word, and there's a notable innocence in his wider ambitions: "Like, a lot of people are focused on taking over the world, or like, doing the biggest thing, getting the most users. I think, like, part of making a difference and doing something cool is focusing intensely."

Oh Mark. How you've changed.
