This car's wheels are going to change driving forever

It can go SIDEWAYS!

This car's wheels are going to change driving forever
30 June 2016

Parallel parking: two words that strike fear into the heart and sweat into the palms of any learner driver (and most who've got their licence).

Omnidirectional wheels: two more words that will make most of you scratch your head, unless you're a seasoned forklift truck driver. It's a nifty transport trick that allows a tyre itself to rotate left and right - thus allowing a vehicle to move in pretty much any direction.

US inventor William Liddiard has managed to make a set of these omni-wheels that work on his battered old Toyota Echo, letting him spin, pivot and strafe with the ease of a ballroom dancer.

Currently a working concept, Liddiard has made the technology available for licencing. Someone, please, make these widely available - we've got an idea for a Michael Jackson car music video we need to make happen. Bad (driving).
