Apple might have a serious rival on their hands

Is this underdog smartphone the next iPhone?
03 September 2018

If Apple isn’t careful, they’re going to have some serious trouble on their hands.

Last month, it was reported that Chinese mobile phone maker Huawei had knocked iPhone sales into third place, becoming the world’s second-largest smartphone vendor, after Samsung.

Huawei shipped 54 million handsets in the second quarter of 2018, with strong demand for its well-reviewed P20 handset. By comparison, Apple shifted 41 million handsets - though at a higher price than their Chinese rivals.

And the mobile phone maker is again gunning for Steve Jobs’ legacy with the announcement that their much-hyped Huawei Mate 20 will be unveiled in London next month.

Here’s what we (probably) know about the upcoming handset…

According to Mashable, the Mate 20 is expected to have a 6.3-inch screen, a 4,200mAh battery, 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and wireless charging. Huawei’s P20 had a triple rear camera and the Mate 20, which is likely to launch with Android Pie, could follow suit.

The publication even reports that there could be a Mate 20 Pro (rumoured to have a 6.9-inch screen) and an ultra-high-end option, the Mate 20 Porsche Edition.

But don’t start writing Apple’s obituary just yet.

Numerous manufacturing leaks, indicate we’ll get three new iPhones this year – and they’re all massive: a 5.8-inch successor to the iPhone X, a 6.5-inch Plus model and a stripped-back 6.1-inch affordable handset.

Let the battle of the smartphones… continue!
