Forget shotguns and laser canons. Tell Arnie to sit this one out. Mankind's saviour from the inevitable robotic uprising is already his best friend.

The following video was taken by Tesla Motors board member Steve Jurvetson, capturing the moment a Schnauzer (we think) encounters one of Boston Dynamics' quadrupedal Spot robots.

"Maybe the fido is just confused by the appearance of a bigger dog that doesn't have anything he can sniff?"

No so: this dog in question belongs to Andy Rubin, co-founder of Android and a former manager of Google's robotics programme.

This dog knows robots very, very well. He can sense the danger it presents to his master. He's trying to warn us, trying to alert us to the imminent peril presented by this unthinking droid.

"Aren't you seeing this thing, guys? Turn it off now! Before it's too late!" or, in his own words, "Woof!".
