One of their many great easter eggs

This secret Google trick will turn your browser all Christmassy
07 December 2017

Google has unveiled its latest hidden easter egg – and this one is perfect for putting you in a fuzzy, festive mood in the run up to Christmas.

If you type ‘Christmas’ (or ‘Christmas cards’, ‘Christmas presents’, any phrase with the word Christmas in), into the search engine, you’ll be greeted by a string of animated twinkly lights, a gingerbread house, candy canes, candles and even a few sprigs of holly. It’s the perfect amount of Christmassy cheer to warm my cold, Grinch-like heart.

Internet users instantly fell in love with the festive theme. On Twitter, Little Miss Katy screamed: “LOOK WHAT HAPPENS ON GOOGLE WHEN YOU SEARCH ANYTHING WITH THE WORD CHRISTMAS IN IT!!!”

And Angela added: “Okay well this is amazing.”

Saira wrote: “I LOVE IT!!”

Google is of course famous for its hidden easter eggs. Here’s a few of the highlights:

1. Atari Breakout (search ‘Atari Breakout’ and click on images to play this classic game in your browser)

2. Super Mario Brothers (search ‘Super Mario Brothers’ and click on the mystery box for some bonus coins)

3. Do a barrel roll (search ‘Do a barrel roll’ and sit back as you watch your screen spin)

4. Zerg Rush (search ‘Zerg Rush’ and fight off a marauding gang of Os attacking your screen)

And if you’re feeling in a really festive mood, Google has also brought out some extra Christmas games. Go to Google’s Santa Tracker and you can play really fun games like ‘present bounce’ and ‘Santa’s canvas’. You weren’t planning on doing any work today anyway, were you?
