Videogame hacker cheats other players online, gets virtually executed

Nobody likes a cheat. That’s a fact, whether it’s the spatially challenged school bully at school that overcomes natural footballing ability with brute strength and intimidating glares or your gin drinking aunt playing cards at Christmas.

Cheaters, while usually finding a brief moment of prosperity, will always get caught out. While usually resulting in a smarting red face (and occasional tears if it’s our aunt…), in the case of Guild Wars 2 cheater, DarkSide, it was a touch harsher: a public execution.

The user had been accused of using various hacks to continually beat opponents in player-versus-player battles in Guild Wars 2, teleporting at will to avoid damage and duff up the other players.

While probably hilarious for Dark Side at the time, other users started to get a bit grouchy (rightly so..) and inevitably reported the user to the gaming gods.

The gods, better known as the game maker ArenaNet, gave it some good thought and came up with a solid solution: taking over the rogue account and performing a public stripping and execution before logging DarkSide out and deleting the account.

Brutal.
