When The Sims was released all the way back in February 2000, its creators at Maxis - the same minds who had brought the world immensely distracting SimCity - didn't know if they were on to a hit. It was too obscure, too complicated, possibly too dull to make an impression on gamers.
Despite having almost cancelled it, it went on to become one of the most successful video game franchises of all time, shifting more than 175 million copies.
But then, had they known what sick fantasies players would inflict upon their unsuspecting Sim populations, perhaps it would have been best left on the shelf. In a recent discussion over on Ask Reddit, things went from dark to depraved as forum members discussed the most "depraved thing you've ever done in The Sims".
