New Assassin’s Creed marks end of an era

Ezio Auditore’s story is lined up for a dramatic finale

New Assassin’s Creed marks end of an era

If The Sopranos has taught us anything (other than to make sure the Russian mobster you’ve whacked and dumped in The Pine Barrens really is dead) it’s that all good things one day come to an end. And so it is the case with Assassin’s Creed Revelations.

This game, the fourth in the series, sees the conclusion of Renaissance hitman Ezio Auditore’s story. And it brings his Holy Land ancestor Altair’s to a proper close too.

The action is mostly set in Constantinople (now known as Istanbul), a city that spans both Asia and Europe and has a rich history. But it will also see the return of Assassin-stronghold Masyaf from the first game, albeit 300 years later, as Auditore hunts for a MacGuffin (sorry, we mean powerful artefact) that will greatly impact the war against the Templars.

There are new weapons, including a hidden hooked blade that allows Auditore to use zip lines to speed his progress across the cities’ rooftops.

He’ll also be able to craft his own bombs from a variety of ingredients that can be discovered in the game world.

And there will be improved multiplayer after last year’s experimental debut in Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood.

But if all this seems bittersweet because it’s the last we’ll see of Auditore, don’t fret. It just means this time next year you’ll be reading about a new protagonist and setting as Assassin’s Creed 3 is revealed.

Assassin’s Creed Revelations is released on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on 15 November
