Snake

It goes without saying that mobile games are much more complex now than they were back in the days before apps.

In the early days, you had to make do with the games that came free with the phone. And, if you were the proud owner of a Nokia 3210 or…ah, who are we kidding, no one had any other phone at the time, that meant Snake.

You probably know how the game works already – you control a snake by moving it up, down, left or right, and get it to eat food so it grows bigger until it runs into a wall or into its own tail.

Look, we didn’t have as many distractions back then, okay, don’t judge us.

For this reason, we got really excited at the news the Nokia 3310 - i.e. the one most of us got when we were bored of the 3210 - was returning. Until, that is, we learned they had robbed us of the best thing about it.

But Snake has now properly returned, in its simplest and most addictive form, and it’s all thanks to Google.

As announced in a blog post to commemorate the search engine’s 19th birthday, you can now play the game with your computer keyboard, all from the comfort of your browser.

It couldn’t be simpler, really. Just head to Google, where you’ll be greeted by a special birthday doodle.

Then, just type the word ‘snake’ into the search bar, and lo and behold…

Plenty of people are very much on board with it, presumably filled with nostalgia for the game that took over their life long before Flappy Bird, Pokemon Go or whatever the next big thing ends up being.

Oh, and if you were wondering whether the introduction of Snake was coming at the expense of Pac-Man, you’ve got nothing to worry about.

What’s that? You didn’t know you could play Pac-Man on Google either? Well aren’t you in for a treat.

Thank us later.
