We struggle to imagine how Shinji Mikami spends his downtime. Reading the papers while sipping on some freshly brewed tea? Catching up with his parents on a nice walk through the park? It's just that, as the father of Resident Evil, Devil May Cry and imminent nightmare machine The Evil Within, we can't picture him in any context other than a shadowy dungeon.
Whatever he's doing, it's working for him. The more we see of Mikami's latest title, The Evil Within, the more certain we are that we'll be throwing controllers at our TV and sleeping with the lights on.
A survival horror game (Mikami's favourite), The Evil Within is set in the claustrophobic confines of a deranged world, which changes according to players' decisions, filled with creatures intent on making you suffer. Playing as detective Sebastian Castellanos, it's up to you to find your friends, stay alive and get the hell out.
The following trailer is grim, gory and should only be watched by those of you who enjoy a good bit of terror.
(The Evil Within arrives on 14 October)
