Console coveter: Mega Man NES

Retro never looked better

Console coveter: Mega Man NES
09 May 2013

Forget about your Wii U, Xbox Infinity and PlayStation 4, here’s a console to set the pulse of retro gamers racing.

To pay tribute to 25 years of Mega Man, the highly talented Ryan Fitzpatrick of Springfield, Missouri, USA, has created this gorgeous modified NES system, adorned with a backlit pixel-perfect Mega Man.

Fitzpatrick, who began tinkering with his retro console collection as a hobby back in 2006, spent several weeks working on the NES, filing, cutting and sanding the Mega Man casing by hand. The leaping Blue Bomber etched into the NES is approximately 1/32” scale of the original pixel drawing, and required the artist to come develop new customising techniques mid-build.

The fully functioning NES is described by Fitzpatrick as a “one-of-a-kind”, and he’s putting his labour of love up for sale – keep an eye on his website and Facebook page for further details.

Fitzpatrick assures that the 72 pin connector has been faithfully restored, saving your lungs from the 'old skool' trick of blowing into your cartridge collection.

Should you miss out on the Mega Man NES, Fitzpatrick is open to commissions, so should you dream of owning your very own Xbox engraved with the Master Chief, or Sonic splashed all over a Sega Saturn, drop him a line. Be sure to check out his backlit Legend of Zelda NES for further console envy.
