All coming this year

More Wolfenstein, Doom VR and Link in Skyrim - it's Bethesda's E3 conference
12 June 2017

Bethesda’s E3 showcase kicked off at 5am UK time, so well done to the bleary-eyed hardcores who managed to stay up through the night.

Attendees over in LA were welcomed into a miniature, 50s-style theme park called Bethesdaland, and while they kept the conference relatively brief, there were some pretty exciting games on show. It’s also notable that everything the publisher talked about is due for release this year.

Here’s a round-up of the biggest announcements.

Doom is getting a VR game

The legendary first-person shooter series is coming to HTC Vive and PlayStation VR in 2017. Doom VFR (that’s Virtual Fucking Reality) will make annihilating demons more immersive than ever, provided you can last more than 10 seconds without throwing up. Still, we want to play it. A lot.

Fallout 4 VR has a release date

Bethesda’s enormous post-apocalyptic RPG will be playable in its entirety with the HTC Vive headset. The future really is now (or it will be in October, if you insist on being picky).

More Dishonored is coming very soon

Dishonored 2 was one of the best games of last year, so we’re well up for more steampunk sneaking in Karnaca. In standalone adventure Death of the Outsider (apparently set after the events of Dishonored 2) you play as Billie Lurk, who teams up once again with former mentor Daud in a mission to assassinate The Outsider, a sort of emo god who is ever-present in the series.

It looks great.

You can play as The Legend of Zelda’s Link in Skyrim for the Nintendo Switch

An updated port of revered RPG The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim was announced for the Switch when the console was first revealed to the world, but thanks to E3 we now know it’s definitely coming this year, and those with a Legend of Zelda amiibo will be able to unlock Link's blue tunic from Breath of the Wild, as well as his most famous weapon, the Master Sword. The Zelda Scrolls, if you will.

The Evil Within 2 announced

A sequel to Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami’s 2014 horror hit will arrive – appropriately – on Friday 13, and the news was accompanied by a very slick cinematic trailer. It’s also worth mentioning that the first game can be picked up for next to nothing these days if you want to be up on the story in time for launch day.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus looks very good indeed

A lot of people were banking on seeing a lot more of a brand new Wolfenstein title at E3, and Bethesda didn’t let them down.

Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus is set in 1961, picking up where the rather splendid Wolfenstein: The New Order left off. Unfortunately, the world is still run by Nazis, and it’s once again up to B.J. Blazkowicz to join the resistance and take the fight to them (this time in the USA) with an even larger collection of very noisy weapons.

We were treated to a lengthy trailer that was peppered with gameplay footage, and that was more than enough to shoot this one right to the top of our most wanted list.

We’ll be covering every major press conference throughout the week. For a lot more E3 content, head over to http://e3.game.co.uk/
