A visual evolution of Lara Croft

Oh how we snickered when running around caves with Lara Croft, believing no other pixelated heroine could warm our hearts like she – despite her excessively large bosom constantly getting in the way of our artefact hunting.

Then, of course, the next series of Tomb Raider games came along, sending an entirely new generation of young men into a frenzy of gaming worship; the ultimate testament to the ease in which Ms Croft has reincarnated on umpteen console jumps.

So, depending on when you first became accustom with the franchise, you'll have a different take on this extraordinary infographic. Designed by Halloween Costumes and spanning 1996 to present day, it highlights just how primitively pixelated Croft's first few appearances were, and, how, over time, the respective promo pictures have gone from ludicrously different to eerily similar.

It might even make you forgive those Angelina Jolie films. Or maybe not.
