Wired headphone users: Apple hates you and wants you to be sad

Wires? Pah! You Neanderthal idiot!

Bad news for iPhone users who still use wired headphones: new iPhones will no longer come with the dongle needed to use them; that plugs into the Lightning port and, in three or so short inches of wire, transforms into an old-school 3.5mm headphone jack.

Apple included the 3.5mm dongle in the boxes of the iPhone X, 8, 8 Plus, 7, and 7 Plus phones, but the newly-unveiled iPhone XS, XS Max and XR, as well as new iPhone 8s, will be shipped dongleless (dongless? no). Dongle-devoid.

Tangled headphones

A thing of the past?

You can still buy a dongle from Apple for the princely sum of £9 – that’s three quid an inch – on top of the £749-plus they’re after for the phone itself.

They’re really not fans of wired headphones, Apple. They hate them to the core (apple joke, there).

There were more exciting announcements made by Apple at their launch last night, obviously, but if you’re a big fan of balled-up white plastic leads forever getting tangled in your keys and sometimes snagging on door handles, you’re probably seething at this.
