The Jet-Powered Surf Board

It's 5am, about eight degrees and you're in a car headed to a beach. Why? Because you've been assured this is the best time to catch the waves, with the beaches free of all human-shaped obstacles/no one there to laugh at you.

Having squeezed into a wet suit in a chilly car park, your trundling in the direction of the sea with a board under your arms. You crest a dune only to find that, in the correct vernacular, surf is not up.

While the above scenario would be enough to crush the soul of the average surfer, anyone with a Lampuga board under their arm is still in for some fun.

Hidden within this chubby carbon-fibre board is an electric jet engine (as in jet ski, not jet plane), capable of propelling the board and its rider at speeds of up to 35mph. Once they've mastered their balance, or taken the easy route of lying down, surfers control their speed via the board's hand-held steering belt. On an hour's charge, the Lampuga can offer around half an hour of surf time - easily enough time to lose all feeling in your extremities.

That trip to the flat waters of *insert British coastal town* just became a lot more appealing - though it'll set you back the best part of £9,600 to get your hands on one. You can find out more on the Lampuga website, or see the board in action below.
