The Apple Car Is Coming A Lot Sooner Than You Thought

Four years.

That's how long we're going to have to wait until Apple pulls the spangly curtain off its electric car.

The Wall Street Journal's technology writer Daisuke Wakabayshi has word that the Californian tech giant is pushing ahead with its much-rumoured electric car, with internal staff viewing it as a "committed project" (as opposed to one of those "that'd be cool" brain storms).

Currently codenamed 'Project Titan', Wakabayshi details that Apple is set to triple the number of staff working on the project, with the first model set to roll onto roads as soon as 2019.

The much hyped self-driving car of the future that everybody from Google to Elon Musk is talking about could be quite some time arriving though. Employees that Wakabayshi admitted that such high concept aspirations are a little further over the horizon.

Launching a car company is a vast project, and one that Apple isn't taking lightly: they've already hired the likes of Doug Betts, former global head of operations at Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, and have apparently reached out to BMW for advice on building an electric car. They've also bought up a large battery supplier, so they could well have their power sources covered.

The year 2019 might be an ambitious estimate, but it shows that Apple is taking electric cars seriously, after the likes of Tesla has proven it to be a profitable, forward-looking business model.

Let us know what you think the first model should be called below.
