Believe it or not, last year’s dual-core smartphones are about to be usurped by their brainier siblings — such as this HTC One X. It has the best of everything: a super-tough case moulded from polycarbonate (used to make ice-hockey helmets), a pixel-packed 4.7in HD display and a speedy quad-core processor.

And yes, four cores rather than two means this phone can do twice as many simultaneous operations. The best Android phone yet? Well, we’d hate to make any rash predictions…
