Phones have been smart for a while. Watches are becoming more educated by the month. Even glasses, chopsticks and shoes are starting to exhibit unusually levels of intelligence. And now, with the arrival of the MOTA SmartRing, we appear to be edging toward a world in which everything is smart, connected and bleeping.

But it's not as bad as it sounds. This touch-screen notification centre for your fingers isn't designed to be another screen to drain your attention, but a simple solution to reducing the number of gadgets fighting for your attention.

Connect to your phone or tablet (Android or iOS) via low energy Bluetooth 4.0 and adjust the notifications you want your MOTA to display for you. Emails, text messages and alerts can be read at a glance, while a VIP setting will only allow selected contacts to set your MOTA buzzing.

Some fancy tech is packed into the small ring - the touch-screen allows you to swipe through messages, specific vibrations can be assigned to different contacts and it even manages to squeeze wireless charging into its sleek black (or pearl) case. It won't appeal to everyone, but it's a neat device for anyone wanting to distance themselves from their phone without severing their 'smart' connections altogether.

Currently looking for funding via Indiegogo, you can put in an order for a MOTA smartring for around £46. The first models are expected to arrive in April 2015 - by which point the Apple iWatch might have already taken over or we've destroyed all technology to get some peace and quiet.
