Everyone still has '1234' as their password

Come on guys, you're not even trying

Everyone still has '1234' as their password

You think you’re so clever, don’t you?

You never have to ring IT after locking yourself out of your work computer. You never click on that patronising ‘forgot password?’ link, do you?

Well, now you’ve been rumbled. Now we know that instead of a mind palace memory you’re just using the word ‘password’, you idiot.

This revelation comes after the announcement of the fifth annual SplashData chart which showed that people are still using ridiculously obvious and easy to guess passwords. The firm aggregated the passwords from around two million that were leaked in 2015 and found that the most popular password is, you guessed it, “123456” with “password” coming in second.

How any of us have any money or our identities left is a miracle, it’s like leaving the keys to your house under that out-of-place rock on your door step.

Other classics from the list include “dragon” for some reason at 9 and “letmein” at 13.

SplashData recommends that people create passwords with at least eight mixed characters.

Check.

It also says that you shouldn’t use the same password on more than one site.

Damn.
