This dating app has introduced a feature that will stop ghosting

Badoo users are being encouraged not to ghost each other with a new, honest feature

Getting ghosted is annoying, but then we’ve all done it - it’s just a thing you do nowadays, right? Don’t lie - you’ve all done it at least once.

It’s a gross habit, but one we all share. And it’s particularly prevalent on dating apps, due to the flighty-nature of the things - sometimes you’ve not even met the person yet, so it can’t hurt to ghost them?

Well, dating experts Badoo think not, and have introduced a feature into their app which will encourage users not to make like halloween and ghost.

Essentially, if a user hasn’t replied to a message after three days, they’ll get a nudge from Badoo which will provide them with suggestions such as “Hey, sorry for the late reply. When are you free to meet?” or if you’re heading the other way, “Hey I think you’re great, but I don’t see us as a match. Take care!”

You, on a date

Badoo’s in-house dating expert and psychologist, Claire Stott, reckons it’s a chance to whip up lax daters into better, more respectful people:

“Not only does the feature intercept the ‘ghosting’ process by encouraging users to reply, it also prompts those who are actually interested in their match, to get the ball rolling and meet in real life.

“Ghosting has been going on forever, but apps have expanded the dating pool and created more opportunities for people to meet. Therefore the chances of being ghosted are higher. For anyone who finds themselves being ghosted, don’t assume that they stopped talking to you because you did something wrong. It’s a by-product of online dating rather than a reflection of you as a person.”

So is this the final death-knell for ghosting? Of course it’s not - ghosters gon’ ghost - but it might encourage the odd would-be ghoster to take a second thought and let the other person know the situation.

Which is nice, isn’t it? Let’s all be nice, eh, for once in our lives?
