The evolution of the shoe box

The ritual of opening a new set of trainers is a special one: the satisfying feeling of the cardboard lid hinging open, the box fresh smell, the voluminous mountains of tissue paper. Taking the shoes out only seems to spoil it all.

Illustrator and graphic designer Stephen Cheetham has created a beautiful set of prints that highlight the changing design of the humble shoe box that many of us cling on to for unknown reasons. The development of brands including Converse and Vans can be just as readily seen in the evolving styles of their boxes as in their shoes.

Which reminds us, we need some new trainers. Mainly for the box.

Sneaker heads can purchase these prints from Print-Process. Check out Cheetham's site to see more of his amazing work.
