Summer’s orange footwear obsession

The footwear of summer 2014 looks to have been overcome with an abundance of carotene.

Specifically, beta-carotene. Better known (and more readily spelt) as orange.

A flood of bright, bold and altogether conspicuous colourways are bidding to draw attention to everything below the ankle this summer (which, we've been informed, will arrive next week. Probably). Here's a selection of the most vibrant shoes to have caught our eye.

The footwear equivalent of a Calippo, these bold iterations of the Air Max 90 ICE are appropriately named 'Atomic Mango'. The lightweight synthetic fabrics compliment the geometric patterns, while the sole is a thing of beauty. Yes, you can pull these off.

The faithful Puma Suede has long been available in orange, but we thought we'd include it anyway. Gloriously chubby laces, classic low-profile silhouette, they're the most subtle orange shoe in our roundup. Which is quite an achievement.

Part of Nike's knitted revolution, it's been said that you can see this vibrant edition of the Flyknit Lunar 2 from the moon, which is quite fitting. The polyester yarn clings to your foot like a sock, while the foam core sole provides one of the comfiest rides you've ever dipped your toe in.
