Man Completed: The New Hardy Amies Capsule Collection
08 April 2014

Sir Hardy Amies defined British fashion in the Sixties. He staged the first men's ready-to-wear fashion show (at The Savoy Hotel) in 1962, dressed the England football team for the 1966 World Cup, clothed Albert Finney in Two For The Road in 1967 and collaborated with Stanley Kubrick to design the costumes for 2001: A Space Odyssey in 1968. He once said, "My mission in life is to create a wardrobe for what I call the 'complete man'."

In honour of that statement, the brand, currently enjoying a Second Coming under the guidance of creative director Mehmet Ali, has introduced a capsule collection of six staple menswear pieces for autumn. The range - called 'The Hardy' - comprises signature modern classics designed to be contemporary, versatile and affordable. The line incorporates a classic two-button single-breasted suit, available in navy, black or grey, with a sharp and quintessentially British silhouette. Further pieces included a signature patch pocket unstructured blazer, a timeless pea coat, British mac, a modern textured bomber and a formal Epsom coat.

To quote Amies again: "A man should look as if he's bought his clothes with intelligence, put them on with care and then forgotten all about them." If he were alive today he might also have added "and without sacrificing sartorial prowess while being kind to your wallet".

The range is available from the Hardy Amies flagship store at 8 Savile Row, London, online and at Harvey Nichols concessions in Knightsbridge, Leeds, Manchester and Edinburgh.
