World's most perfect razor is now (sort of) affordable

New sapphire blade gives closest shave yet

World's most perfect razor is now (sort of) affordable
30 November 2015

There's nothing quite like that first touch of a freshly shaved face, especially after using a brand new razor for the first time. It's breathtaking, like gliding through freshly-fallen snow on the Alps. Or something.

But imagine if your razor cost $100,000. Imagine how smooth it would be. We shudder to even think about it.

But that's the cost of the first product by Zafirro, the 'Iridium' model, which used 'the most significant technological advances in material sciences and nanotechnology' to create a blade which used diamonds and promised to offer the closest, sharpest shave on the market, as well as something that was supremely long-lasting.

Unsurprisingly, only a limited few could afford that model, so then followed the 'Zafirro Gold', which retailed at a mere $18,000 - still a 'bit much' for a nice shave, no matter how satisfying.

However, it's now in the realms of us mere mortals with the announcement of the standard 'Zafirro Z2' model, now on Kickstarter for a relatively-reasonable $179 (£119).

It uses a pure white sapphire blade, and promises to be the sharpest razor in the world (behind its two big brothers). Sapphire is the second hardest material in the world after diamond, meaning that the blade is ten times sharper than a surgeon's scalpel. Its tip is just 80 atoms wide - 5,000 times smaller than the width of a human hair.

The company promise that the blades will last between six and twelve months - although in lab conditions they say this can go up to five years - with replacement cartridges selling for $49 (£33).

So its a lot of money, but considering how long it lasts, far from outrageous. Will you be getting one?

Head to the Kickstarter to get your closest shave yet.
