The £300 pair of trainers that are already filthy

Ground breaking style or just madness?

The £300 pair of trainers that are already filthy
31 August 2016

There's nothing worse than wearing a pair of shoes outside the house for the first time, only for someone to step on them 20 minutes into their introduction into the world. Luckily Italian brand Golden Goose has solved the problem: just have your trainers pre-dirtied.

£300. That's how much it's going to cost you to have a luxurious pair of trainers that are already scuffed. Yes, you read that right, a pair of shoes that are already dirty before you've even worn them.

Want to glean a bit more information on how the shoes get their signature distressed effect? Hoping to see a video of a blind man sat next to a bath tub full of compost dipping pairs of trainers in to the sounds of Pavarotti's Nessun Dorma? Sorry, the brand's Venice-based founders Francesca and Alessandro Gallo call it 'a trade secret'.

There is an assumption that dirty Vans and Converse look best as they tell a story, but forking out this much on a pair handcrafted leather trainers that have been pre-scuffed by hand can seem ludicrous to so many people. But maybe these are for the businessman who is still a skateboarder at heart who doesn't have time to naturally add wear and tear to his trainers...
