Bond’s Barbour and the customised look

Sounding more Orwellian dystopia than an area of Barbour’s South Shields factory, Dept B is a new collection of men’s outerwear named after its customisation department.

Department B has been taking individual requests for extra pockets or special reinforcements since the Twenties.

Dept B’s addition of hidden trims, extra patches and pockets or a zipper that doubles up as a bottle opener, gives the collection a believable depth and age.

A key piece is the Commander jacket inspired by the Barbour worn by Daniel Craig in Skyfall. This style – product code 007 – was created as a one-off for the film and customised by the wardrobe department and has been reproduced in Dept B.

Ian Bergin, head of menswear says, “There are many jackets in Barbour’s archive that feature customisations which tell a story about the wearer and offer interesting clues about their life. We wanted to create a collection that celebrated this attention to detail.”
