We're all guilty of checking our phones too often, but one Australian woman took it too far - literally.
An unnamed woman, apparently a Taiwanese tourist, fell into Melbourne's Port Phillip Bay after looking at Facebook and walking off the end of the pier. The incident happened at 11:30pm on Tuesday evening; luckily a passer-by raised the alarm and the water police rescued her 20m from the pier - apparently she was not a swimmer, and was subsequently taken to hospital for treatment.
Senior Constable Dean Kelly told ABC that, "she was still out in the water laying on her back in a floating position because she told us later that she couldn't swim...initially she apologised... she said 'I was checking my Facebook page on the phone and I've fallen in'."
Such was the woman's commitment to social media that she apparently still had her phone in her hand after being rescued - maybe she was updating her status while waiting for the rescuers.
