Andy Murray in the Davis Cup

Just hours after Manchester’s Tyson Fury took four belts from Wladimir Klitschko to become boxing’s new heavyweight champ, Andy Murray went and rounded off a remarkable weekend for British sport by leading Great Britain its first Davis Cup since 1936.

Make no mistake, this was all down to Murray junior: his impressive win vs Belgian hotshot David Goffin, finished off by the most audacious of lobs, was the 11th of Murray’s winning rubbers in this year’s world Group campaign in which GB won 12. A record.

Up against a hostile home crowd and facing the last match on Goffin’s favoured clay surface, Murray became the first tennis player to win three live rubbers in the final since Pistol Pete Sampras in 1995’s win for the US. Again and again, Murray hushed premature Belgian cheers by returning balls he simply had no right to, and this point below was arguably the best of the lot.


Benedict Cumberbatch imitates otters on Graham Norton's show

Much like any role, the actor threw himself into the role perfectly. Even sharing one tender scene with a giant teddy bear. And Johnny Depp thought he was method…
