Why Are Millennials So Obsessed With Cartoon Pornography?

Why Are Millennials So Obsessed With Cartoon Pornography?

We're going to talk about pornography. Specifically the fairly surprising sexual predilections of that there 'yoof' of today when it comes to auto-erotic stimuli.

According to Pornhub's recent release of user statistics, the hilariously titled Coming of Age: Millennials, 18 to 34-year-olds are consuming pornography on a more regular basis than older generations.

See, Exhibit A.

So far, not so surprising.

That the& millennial generation make up a 60 percent majority of Pornhub's worldwide traffic is fairly predictable. It's presumably based on the dwindling libidos of older internet users, or maturer folk simply shunning virtual stimulation in favour of, you know, real sex. Or it might suggest a mildly concerning reticence on the part of younger users to go outside.

More likely is that it's a combination of both. The voyeuristic habits of the millennial generation shaped by their embrace of the digital age, turning in their masses to the rich, immersive medium of video over the top-shelf magazines that dominated the youth of their parental generation.

We're a tech savvy bunch, so it makes sense that youngsters should be pioneering digital alone time too.

Interestingly, they also browse Pornhub for a full minute less than older generations - which could imply an alarming lack of stamina on their part, or that older generations take longer in deciding how they want to spend their minutes (all ten of them).

Perhaps most horrifying is the amount of people browsing porn through their smartphones. Sure, there's no indication of whether the Millennial users are getting their kicks "on the move" - but the back of the bus might very well have become a far smuttier place than we remember it.

Again, is any of this really that surprising when looked at from the wider techno-world that we live in? Of course not. What is though, are the subjects that Millennials are looking at. Weird stuff, by the sound of it.

Millennials have a startling interest in fantastical pornographic subjects: cosplay tops the list of terms more searched for by younger generations - suggesting the recent spate of Marvel movies has a lot to answer for, followed closely by the likes of hentai (don't Google it) and anime.

Yes, Sir. Our younger brethren are masturbating to cartoons.

We're not sure when cartoons started being more sexually stimulating than real people. Have animators become smuttier? Has the most accessible aspect of Japanese pop-culture proven to be its exotic pornography? Or are millennials running out of "real-life" fantasies to press their buttons? We'll ask the next gang of twenty-something we meet.

It's a piece of insight that only appears to look odder when placed alongside the proclivities of older generations.

Hentai is the stand-out quirk of the younger generation (plus cartoons?) - a category that has either passed older pornography viewers by or holds little appeal for them.

In all, the porn habits of millennials is an echo of the same aspects that define their generation: mobile access is key and hitherto unknown trends dominate their tastes.

And yes, we had to Google 'Tribbing' as well. Time to delete our search history...
