'Walking Dead' actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan has his say on that "racist" Primark t-shirt
24 February 2017

In case you missed it, Primark had to remove a The Walking Dead t-shirt from its stores after it was called out for being racist

Ian Lucraft (a Methodist minister) complained about the item telling The Scotsman: “The slogan is, ‘Eeeny meenie miny moe...’. It stops there, but of course we all know what the original said, ‘catch a n***** by his toe’.

“The graphic has a large American baseball bat, wrapped round with barbed wire, and covered with blood. This image relates directly to the practice of assaulting black people in America.

“It is directly threatening of a racist assault, and if I were black and were faced by a wearer I would know just where I stood.”

While there isn’t a The Walking Dead logo on the merchandise line, the words are said in the season six finale of the show by Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s character, Negan. In the scene, Negan finishes the phrase with “catch a tiger by his toe”.

Now the actor has had his concise and quite frank say on the matter, tweeting:

“He’s not wrong,” said one Redditor, while another added, “If a shirt that says ‘Eeny meeny miny moe’ genuinely outrages you, you have bigger problems in life.”

Ironically, Negan actually says the rhyme in the comics so he won’t be perceived as racist – he wants his victim to be chosen at random.

Either way, Primark pulled thousands of the shirt from their stores.
