Vintage train posters
21 August 2013

Have you ever spent a soggy Saturday on a platform, patiently awaiting a glimpse of the 12:39 from Didcot Parkway? Then these retro train posters will be right up your track. They're worthy of a glance even if that's not your sort of thing.

For those of us uninitiated in the wonderful world of trains, 2013 has been a pretty big deal for British locomotives. The London Underground celebrated its 150th birthday, while the year also marked the 75th anniversary of the Mallard breaking the world speed steam record (it clocked a tremendous 126mph on nothing more than heat and water vapour). It's also the 100th anniversary of the publication of Bradshaw's Continental Railway guide 1913 - a documentation of European rail services that opened the continent to the British traveller.

To capitalise on this wave of train trivia, HRS commissioned the following the following series of vintage railway posters. Steamy.

The Flying Scotsman

The Mallard

The Canadian mountaineer

The London Underground

The Siberian Express
