VIDEO: Kaleidoscopic ‘Mirror City’

We've never been any good at recording our occasional city breaks, returning with a predictable album of blurred street signs and forgettable piles of food.

California-based photographer Michael Shainblum's Mirror City has given us a lesson in how to capture the urban in breathtaking style: use timelapse, use mirror effects and add a trippy bass line.

The resulting video sees the familiar landscapes of Chicago, San Francisco, San Diego, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles mesh and meld into mesmerising alien vistas. Or as Michael puts it, “I wanted to put man-made geometric shapes, mixed with elements of colour and movement to create less of a structured video, and more of a plethora of visual stimulation.”
