Tinder is changing its attitude towards transgender users
03 June 2016

The rise of socially progressive blogging sites like Tumblr has helped to fuel a mainstream discussion on non-binary gender, and the kind of issues people of different gender identities often face in modern day society.

For those who aren’t aware, the term non-binary (also known as genderqueer) encompasses a range of varied gender identities, ranging from agender to transgender. We could go into it, but you’re probably better off checking out this far more authoritative Gender Wikia. We would have just copied & pasted it anyway.

In any case, hook-up app Tinder is the latest brand to state its position in the politically controversial conversation. CEO Sean Rad has announced that plans are in place for the app to better cater to its genderqueer users.

"There's a transgender community on Tinder and we haven't done enough to give them a good experience," Rad told the attendees at the Recode Code Conference on Thursday.

To that end, they’ll be introducing a more flexible system where people can identify themselves and who they’re looking to connect with. Details were scarce. but the function is set to be implemented within the next month.
