The screwdriver cycle

DIY meets Tron

The screwdriver cycle
09 March 2011

Screwdrivers are fairly indispensable. As well as fixing a multitude of household problems, they also help to make us feel incredibly manly and useful in front of the fairer sex.

So any invention which results in them being taken out of our perfectly capable hands is going to have to be a doozy. Behold, the vehicle powered by screwdrivers.

The contraption, called EX, gives any daredevil driver a unique experience on the roads as they lie headlong, feeling like they're in a home-made version of Tron and probably praying for it all to end safely. Created by Nils Ferber, the trike combines modified bike parts and two 18-volt Bosch screwdrivers, which act as the engines.

It only reaches speeds of 30 km/h (18 mph) but that's probably for the best really. 'It looks faster in the photos' said a Nils when we contacted him. We still want one.
