The rug that makes you seasick

Maybe, don't buy it?

The rug that makes you seasick
06 February 2012

If you're keen to avoid Lebowski-esque rug theft, this could be the item for you. Alternatively, if you're keen to avoid guests throwing up in your living room, it's probably not right.

Researchers have discovered that this rug pattern literally makes people sick. Test subjects at Saint Peter's College in Jersey City, New Jersey, were asked to stare at the black-and-white pattern which actually proved to be vomit-inducing.

They've linked the finding to other high-contrast patterns known to cause seizures in epileptics.

Frederick Bonato and Andrea Bubka tested 22 college students (sober). They were asked to look at a rug a colleague removed from his home after he and his wife experienced dizziness, nausea, disorientation and headaches. Within 5 minutes motion sickness was rife.

Why? They don't know. Maybe it's because it's horrible?
