The Real Reason Why You Keep Seeing Signs With Missing Letters

We could probably forgive you for thinking it was another example of a broken Britain, one where sign painters have just upped sticks and refused to finish the job.

Or maybe it’s the result of the great British weather that we know so well, all at once washing away the lettering with rain before baking it dry with unexpected bouts of heat.

The real reason is actually a lot more interesting. It’s to do with the removal of the letters A, O and B - part of a new campaign by the NHS to raise awareness for National Blood Week, which just so happens to kick off today, and the key blood groups required to donate a pint of their red.

Quite ingeniously called #MissingType, the PR stunt has seen brands and well known signs removing the key letters, sparking bewilderment amongst the public, and more importantly creating a great talking point.

The campaign has been created to recruit new, regular blood donors to replace over 200,000 people who can no longer give blood.
