The City Bike In A Bag

The City Bike In A Bag

The City Bike In A Bag
11 November 2014
Short of waving a loaded gun in the air or asking to pay with a tenner, nothing gets you kicked off a city bus quicker than carrying a bike on board.

Because while perfect for an urban commute, the minute you find yourself with a flat tire is the minute you realise you’re public enemy number one when it comes to getting on tubes, buses, trams or any other form of transport.

Not that those foldable Brompton bikes aren't without their downsides, as any wheezing workmate ever to lug one down a flight of stairs will probably attest. But there is hope…

Meet the Kit Bike, a concept the clever folk at Lucid Design believe will pave the way for more lightweight and easily transportable bikes of the near future, designed specifically to dismantle with ease and fit into a stylish backpack.

The frame is assembled into 21 parts, ranging from belt to saddle to pedals and simple twist joints to hollow tubes, all locked using a specially designed key, which, when dismantled, nearly fit into the bag of three sections. And then of course there’s that sweet looking backpack.

In fact, the only problem you’ll now have is deciding which looks better.
