The boat that won’t sink

Watching a car crash, a plane plummet or a boat sink can be an oddly transfixing experience. Waiting for the moment of total destruction is a bittersweet sensation.

This feeling has been perfectly captured by artist Julien Berthier who has created these stunning images of a boat, as it dips head-first beneath the surface. The catch though, is that it will stay in that same position, with the sailor remaining strangely calm.

Berthier's plan was to capture this dramatic moment and create an ambiguous image where viewers would be unsure about what they're seeing. The French artist found the wrecked boat in Normandy, cut it in half and sealed it with fiberglass. Two electrical motors were then placed underneath to propel it.

It's called Love Love as this was the original name for this kind of boat, built in the 80s for families to use at weekends.
