January 31. The dreaded day for anyone who has to complete their own self-assessment tax return. No one likes it, we all have to do it (if you're self-employed). At least it's better than the other certainty of life: death.
Now our dear friends at HMRC have released the ten worst excuses ever given for those who missed the deadline to hand in their papers: it's a mixture of the classic and the inventive, and we applaud them all. We assume they all got fined though, even if we doff our cap in their direction.
Life is hard sometimes - death and taxes eh?
