Terrifying List of Architectural Disasters

Terrifying List of Architectural Disasters
25 February 2015

There’s a certain sense of safety you feel when you enter a large building. The reassuring bulk engulfs you and the last thing you’d expect is for something structural to go wrong.

It’s so rare (or at least you think it is) that the potential for disaster doesn’t even register. But if you think about it for a moment, large buildings, with all those thousands of tonnes of concrete and pointy steel, are essentially ornate coffins just waiting for you saps to stroll in.

OK, not quite but architectural disasters happen more often than you think and building company, Tor Coatings, have created an interesting, and terrifying, infographic of incidents that will put your grouting problem into perspective.

Included in the list are the collapse of Charing Cross Railway Station, massive slabs of marble falling from the Chicago sky and a tragic swimming pool extension.

You might want to look up on your way home.
