Oh great. Not only are there alien crab monsters running amok on Mars, now it appears downed vehicles from the Star Wars universe are also hiding out on the red planet too.

The latest mysterious object to be papped by NASA’s Curiosity Rover (by this point he’s more than curious, he’s bloody meddlesome), appears to be a Star Destroyer from George Lucas’s sci-fi saga. Which is bonkers but you can't argue with a picture and an online conspiracy theorist.

UFO expert Scott C Waring was the man who made the spot, telling RT: "I found this anomaly in the latest Curiosity Rover photo. The black object looks like a crashed UFO." Estimating it to be 2.5 to three metres across, he fully believes it’s some sort of space craft, one that "only held a few passengers".

Much smaller of course than those space vessels used by the villainous Imperial Forces of the Star Wars series, and most likely to be a slight glitch in the matrix of NASA’s marauding snapper.

Waring remains convinced there’s more than meet the eye: "There is only one photo of the ship. The rover usually takes many of each area, but not this one. Perhaps tomorrow it will take more."

Who knows, maybe the next set of snaps might pick up the rusty hatch doors of an X-Wing, and Disney will finally be forced to reveal they’ve been taking their PR campaign for The Force Awakens above and beyond.

Watch this space. Or rather, actual space.
