Sleep-texting is a thing
23 November 2011

You know phantom text messages? When you're convinced your phone has vibrated but it hasn't? That's weird, eh?

This is weirder. Increasing numbers of mobile phone obsessives, sorry we mean users, are reporting firing off text messaging while asleep.

Sleep experts said the phenomenon was "a natural extension of the younger generation's reliance on modern technology."

Dr Ron Kramer, of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, said: “Texting for some of the younger generation is probably as ingrained as driving is for some people.”

Reports suggest Jessica Castillo a 24-year-old Italian living in Texas, recently sent two multimedia text messages, to her boyfriend, while catching Z's. The first read: “Baby u there? Need to tell somethin ..." before it turned into gobbledygook. To send it she had to navigate 11 different stages. Something drunk people can do, before losing the plot at the typing stage and forgetting all about it.

Scientists have bought some common sense to proceedings by claiming it's impossible to send a text while in lalaland.

We'd like to underline our point about alcohol.
